Python for Beginners: Learning Python Programming Language Fast

Do you know that the Python programming language is a very great tool to use when working with numbers and evaluating mathematical expressions.  As a mathematics graduate(Bsc) , having spent 4 years in school… writing codes, calculations, algebra on paper. Exploring Python to do calculations is a nice thing you might want to consider. This quality can be utilized to make useful programs/scripts.

This tutorial presents a learning exercise to help you make a simple command-line calculator program in Python 3. While we’ll go through one possibile way to make this program, there are many opportunities to improve the code and create a more robust calculator.

We’ll be using math operators(+,/,*)- i.e Addition, Division, Multiplication.

Prerequisites

For this tutorial, you should have Python 3 installed on your local computer and have a programming environment set up on the machine. If you need to either install Python or set up the environment, you can do so by following the appropriate guide for your operating system.

 In this very brief tutorial, we will first use the principle of variables so we can be able to work with the variables in later calculations.
Once you have installed python you can just head to the command line prompt and type: 2+2
You will have a result of 4. N.B: Python has loose syntax i.e kind of easier compared to other programming languages like PHP, C+, Java etc. That is to say that you can catch along easily.
– Next I assigned variables to a,b,c by using the equal(=) sign
– Next I now use the variables to do whatever calculations I needed to do. e.g ((a*b)+(c*c))/2
Its that simple. You can try it out right away.
>>> 2+2
4
>>> a=5
>>> b=2
>>> c=5
>>> ((a*b)+(c*c))/2
17.5
>>> f=((a*b)+(c*c))/2
>>> f*2
35.0
